Several months, or even years, after the birth of our babies, many of us are left wondering why we can’t seem to get rid of our lower belly pooch. For about 95% of us, the answer is that we have a condition called Diatasis Recti. Diastasis Recti refers to the separation of the outermost layer of the abdominal muscles (the rectus abdominis, or what we commonly call the “six pack”). During pregnancy, the pressure of the expanding uterus pushes against the abdominal wall and often causes the recti muscles to separate. When the recti muscles are separated, the support system for the lower back and organs is significantly weakened, causing lower back pain and the appearance of a “mummy tummy.”

I’ve been so busy with the start of school, getting asked to do about 600 committees (why did I ever say YES to the first? This is how they get you!) and getting C’s PT/OT/Hippotherapy/Special Dance/Sunday School schedule all together. Oh, and trying to take care of myself by changing my medication, getting started again with a new therapist and training for a half-marathon. SO, it’s no wonder that poor little Me Too, who has up until now been completely neglected, should DEMAND that we now pay attention to her.
